Above are Wargames Factory Zombies, A few with minor conversions, the cops belts are made with Green Stuff putty. I carved off the shorts for the nude guy, and added the beards and hair for the street bums. I LOVE Wargames factory zombies.

TINY TINY SHIPS

A new project, ww2 Naval Pacific using "Naval Thunder" rules and figurehead 1/6000 scale ships. YES, 1/6000.......when I first opened the box I really wasnt ready for just how small they were. I spent several days looking at them thinking "how am I going to paint something SOOOO tiny. Eventually I dove in and found them really a breeze. Japanese Destroyers below:Here are Japanese Heavy Cruisers, The numbers are just for reference during the game and are not historical.

On the backs I printed the ships name and class to make things easier.

Did the same with them, number, name, class

I Have almost all the cruisers and destroyers needed to fight the early actions in the pacific, and plan to keep going with this one.

Another side project, The French And Indian War, All the figures are either Perry Miniatures or Conquest Miniatures, both excellent miniatures. This one is slow going because all the Indians (Im so non-PC) have to be individuals, and all the war-paint beadwork is a pain to paint.

Christmas 2009 Ii started a Russian Civil War project, all the figures are Copplestone Castings which are excellant sculpts, Here are 2 pics of Reds, bases unfinished

Next a White unit, I modeled these as the Officers Company of the Kornilov Regt. For you purests out there I KNOW they probably were never this uniform until in exile in Greece after the war...but come on, the uniform is to cool NOT to paint.

I learned later that a company makes little decals for the blue arm patch, AFTER I had hand painted all the boogers.

Spanish Civil War

A side project of mine, The Spanish Civil War, here are 2 pics of Anarchist militia circa 1939.

I have Spanish Foreign Legion, Morrocans and Falange but havnt painted them lately, these fellows havnt even had their bases finished yet because Im unsure if I want to do the stands for urban combat. The figures are all Anglian or Force of Arms 28mm.

And now the natives, most are Ral Partha, with a few Frontier(impossible to get nowdays) and some Old Glory with the bases removed and necks shortened...theyll be the really fat guys.

Just realized how long its been since I Last posted, Ive jumped around alot on periods, Here are some of my colonials: All will be Ral Partha unless noted. I modified the screw gunners, because all the photos Ive seen of them in action, they are crouching. So I cut them off at the waist and made them kneeling, Also added the fringe to the turban. The gun is grey, just looks silver in this light.

Im not to satisfied with the lighting, and I wish I had some good terrain to put them on but this will do for now. Their bases I tried to make fairly generic but arid, so they could fight in the Sudan to Afgahnistan.

Rhodesian Hippo, scratch build APC

Here is my scratch built Hippo anti-mine troop carrier. The Rhodesians used all kinds of anti-mine vehicles but I chose to build this one because it seemed to be the easiest with all the straight lines (technically this one was built in South Africa and used by their army as well as the Rhodesians). This is the first vehicle I have ever done completely from the ground up.....so it has its MAJOR flaws. It is built from bass wood, cardboard, paper, plumbers epoxy and wheels ripped off some matchbox cars.....and alot of Super Glue.

I learned alot building it, mainly what NOT to do. It wont win any modeling contests, but I think it will work fine on the wargames table. I simplified it in the extreme, aiming at getting the general "look". A real "model" is way beyond my skill right now. Cost was zero as all the junk I just had laying around. I intend to make other Rhodesian vehicles later, Rhino, Crocodile and a Pookie mine detection vehicles are all ones I would like to do but all look really tricky to pull off.

I had 2 really bad photos to work off of. Later I found a 3rd pic and realized that I built the rear wrong (the 2 pics were of the side and front). The real one had a very simple solid double door....so this one is the Hippo "XLT", built by Van Jolden & Sons in Joburg.....never heard of them?....well they were a small company.....really small.....known for their fancy back doors......anyway, Im leaving it the way it is even though its not accurate because ,to be honest, I'm tired of working on it.

Rhodesian Light Infantry

These are my latest 20mm Liberation Miniatures. Ive painted them as Rhodesian Light Infantry, an all white unit that was extermely effective. Ive put the picture of the jacket to the left to show what Rhodesian camouflage looked like.

This is the 1st "stick". RLI sticks were armed with 1 light machine gun and 3 SLR . As you can see they are wearing shorts. Dress regulations were vary lax . I intend to convert some figures to wearing long pants which were popular later in the war.

These two fellows have been modified, the fellow with the beret I have added his big mustache with Sculpy. The shotgun on the other guy I added from a Revell 1/72 Vietnam figure.

Here is a closer shot. This gives a better view of their webbing. And shows a little more detail of the camo scheme.

Another close up of camo. These troops could easily be used for other Rhodesian Security Forces with the inclusion of some black soldiers. Only the RLI and the Rhodesian S.A.S. were all white units. I intend to paint some black troops up soon so I can make mixed race units and the Rhodesian African Rifles.

FRELIMO troops

My latest troops are FRELIMO, from Mozambique. Rhodesian Security Forces often clashed with FRELIMO on cross-border operarions against ZANLA camps in Mozambique. FRELIMO dress could take a variety of forms: a khaki uniform, ex-Portugese uniforms, and comunist bloc uniforms (Soviet cammo, East German rain-drop cammo etc.), but I have chosen to paint these guys in a denim uniform that was common.

In "Selous Scouts: Top Secret War" by Peter Stiff, there are several pictures of Selous Scouts wearing Frelimo "denim".

I'm not 100% satisfied with the outcome, I found denim to be extremely irritating to paint. Never quite got the exact look. But I think these fellows will pass as FRELIMO.

Being denim clad, they could also be used as a well uniformed and equiped group of ZANLA. I read an account (cant remember if it was "Fire Force" or "Selous Scouts") of a ZANLA group that was responsible for several attacks on farms being dressed in denim.

Heres a picture of the whole group. Searching for a Selous Scout recon team no doubt.

This picture is mainly to showcase my newly made "scraggely African trees". Cost all of about 8 cents each to make. The trunks are just sticks from the woods outside my house. The foliage is Naturals Floral Moss, from Wal-Mart. I think that the green and dead brown color looks pretty good for Africa. Ive made about 20 so far but these 3 are the only ones that I had gotten the bases almost done. The bases I made with epoxy putty in the plumbing section of Wal-Mart, with pennies in the bottom for weight.

My next group will be a group of ZIPRA/ZANLA. Once I get more terain I will post a battle report. At present I am casting about for some rules. I have several but am not sure which one works the best for this period.

ZANLA- Liberation Miniatures 20mm

I painted this group of Liberation miniatures to be ZANLA, they were less uniformed in apperarence then ZIPRA. I did some conversion work, mainly in headgear as I got way to many bare-

headed guys for Christmas.

I painted tennis shoes on some of the guys and tried to give them
a varied dress.

I tried to paint a wind breaker on the guy in the middle.

I sculpted all the hats on the guys to the left.

I sculpted this big floppy denim hat on this guy...hey its the late 70s

The fellow in the cut off shirt was the biggest conversion so far, hat and his upper arms were sculpted. Since ZANLA was heavily supported by the Chinse, I tried to give the other two guys Chinese type hats.

The ZANLA officer I gave a Red Chinese looking hat.

Selous Scouts- Liberation Miniatures 20mm

This site will be dedicated to many different wargame periods and scales of miniatures but for now I am going to concentrate on one of my favourite periods. Africa in the 60's, 70's and 80's, this will include Rhodesia, SW Africa, Portugese Africa, etc.

These figures are all Liberation Miniatures 20mm, from their Modern Africans range. I have modified all their headgear except for the fellow in the camo jacket. I also added beards and some packs.

They have been converted and painted to represent Rhodesian Selous Scouts. They used enemy clothing and weapons and the white members would grow beards to hide their caucasian features and would "black up" with black cream to hide their skin.

The black members of the Scoutswill be added later as I paint the ZANLA andZIPRA guerrillas, as they would be indistinguishable from each other.

I experimented with different ways of painting the black paint for these guys and I found that in this scale, all blacked up, you could hardly tell the races apart....so my guys have been humping through the bush and sweating alot, hence the black-ish paint.

Big floppy hats were worn in alot of the photos I have seen, I guess this also helped to hide the face and protect the head.

This is just the first of my figs. Soon I will be posting pics of Rhodesian Light Infantry, and of course the guerillas. Also terrain to spice up the pictureand eventually battle reports.
